Guernsey Townhouse

This five-bedroom Georgian townhouse on the edge of St Peter Port, Guernsey, was stripped back and re-built almost in its entirety. Harford House was involved from the very beginning, from concept to completion. The brief was to restore the original proportions of the house as well as its liveliness.

With sustainability at the core of the project, Harford House sourced almost every piece of furniture at auction. From reupholstering vintage barstools and sofas to rewiring fabulous lamps, the house is brimming with pieces that have already lived many lives. Where new materials were needed, I prioritised high-quality, natural finishes. The paint in the house is almost exclusively Edward Bulmer mineral paint, the mattresses are locally made with sustainable wool, new fabrics are all natural fibres (cotton, linen, silk, wool) and the custom seat cushions are filled with non-toxic rubber rather than foam.

The mix of old and new in the house has come together beautifully, with guests remarking that they felt immediately at home, like everything was where it had always been.

Carina was exceptional. Her attention to detail was invaluable on such a large project and her ability to find glorious pieces in the most unlikely places remains impressive!
